Romance Redux

Yes, I apologize to you, the faithful, for not journaling in such a long time. Put hosting and helping preside over a conference is hard work, I swear. Anywho, I don't really feel the need to get everyone caught up on the black hole that is my life. That last statment should basically cover all the bases. I'm not doing too bad. I'm actually in pretty good spirits surprisingly. Enjoyed St. Valentine's Day for a change. No, Tom hasn't found love, not in the sense that is colloquially associated with the day in question. I did, however, get to hang out with my two best female friends AND see Daredevil (critics be damned, along with my reputation as a film geek, that flick was great fun and a comic fan's dream! Spidey can roast in for all I care) all in one day. Speaking of love, and romance and the like, I figured I'd offer up some random thoughts I've been having about such things. Here goes: Why do we seek to find love at such a young age? I mean, sure, now I'm a chubby geek who obsesses over films and I pale in comparison to the skinny blonde surfer guys who prowl the campus. But in ten years, when I'm wiping the floor with Hollywood conventions and exploring a political career and they're praying to the surf goddess that one of the three jobs in the marine biology field will actually open up, what then? Why do I continue to play the Scully and Mulder game? I don't have 9 seasons during which I disappear, come back as a looney and then get the chick. Maybe the truth isn't out there. Am I pipe dreaming in thinking that, yes there is a woman out there who understands me but doesn't just want to be my friend? Is a deeper probe in order? Is who I'm looking for here in my backyard? Or does she not exist at all? And finally, why hasn't anyone told me how truly easy it is to get dates? After doing some research, it seems that women are at least willing to accept a free dinner and a flick from most anyone. I might try this stuff again, even there still is the rejection issue. Worth the risk? We'll just have to see. With all that said, I am looking for someone to accompany little old me (little?) to the Housing Formal in April. I begin my quest now, as the way will be trecherous. I rely on my Jedi teachings to get me through. Course, if you're in the Wilmington, NC area and really want to see a fat guy in a tux, just let me know ;) Once again, Daredevil was fantastic. It was so cool to see my favorite superhero up on the big screen, even if he did look like he was on his way to the Marquis Club. By the way, Hollywood, only New Yorkers get New York jokes. I was laughing it up at the Chelsea joke while the rest of the theater sat in silence. Sure, they work great back home, but down here, it's like a cricket farm. End of mini-rant. Mulder: "If there's iced tea in that bag, this could be love." Scully: "Must be fate, Mulder. Root beer." Take that as you will. That's more than enough of my whining for one entry. I'll talk to you folks next week (I promise!) after College Bowl regionals in Clemson! w00+! Hasta lumbago.
